AEW World Championship, Trios titles vacated after CM Punk-Young Bucks fight: Best memes, reactions

Following the backstage fight between CM Punk and the Young Bucks at All Out, the AEW World Championship and Trios titles have been vacated.

Following AEW All Out, there was a backstage fight that included CM Punk, the Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson), Kenny Omega, and backstage producer Ace Steel following a tense press conference. Earlier in the day, Omega, the Young Bucks, and four more involved in the fight were suspended, with Punk and Steel’s status still to be determined. Ahead of the show, AEW CEO Tony Khan said he would address the situations involving the AEW World Championship and World Trios titles, all of which were held by Punk, Omega, and the Young Bucks.

As AEW Dynamite began, Khan announced that the World Championship and the Trios titles were officially vacated. Khan did not bring up the fight or mention Punk, Omega, and the Young Bucks.

New trios champions were crowned at the show, as Death Triangle (Pac, Penta El Zero Miedo, and Rey Fenix) defeated Best Friends (Orange Cassidy, Trent? Beretta, and Chuck Taylor).

As for the AEW World Championship, there will be a tournament to crown a new champ, with the finals taking place at Grand Slam on Sept. 21 at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, NY.

Fans and media alike reacted to Khan’s huge announcement.

As for the tournament, there will be six competitors fighting for the title. On the Sept. 7 episode of Dynamite, “Hangman” Adam Page takes on Bryan Danielson. Darby Allin and Sammy Guevara will compete in the other opening-round matchup on the Sept. 9 episode of AEW Rampage. On the Sept. 14 episode of Dynamite, Chris Jericho will face the winner of Page/Danielson, while Jon Moxley takes on the winner of Allin/Guevara. The finals will be held at the Grand Slam show.

It is important to note that neither Punk, Omega, or the Young Bucks were included into an introductory video for Dynamite.

The fight transpired after Punk criticized Omega and the Young Bucks (the Executive Vice Presidents for AEW) at the press conference, in addition to “Hangman” Page and Colt Cabana. Punk took a swing at Matt Jackson, while Steel hit Nick Jackson in the eye with a chair and bit Omega.
