Cade McNamara transfer destination could give chance for last laugh over Michigan

Former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara wasted little time deciding his transfer destination. He has reportedly committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Cade McNamara lost his starting job to J.J. McCarthy at the start of the 2022 season. In 2023, he’s going to try to put his new team in a position to play spoiler for Michigan.

The quarterback confirmed on Twitter that he will transfer to Iowa for his final two seasons of eligibility.

That means a Hawkeyes team that has struggled to get literally anything going on offense will have a veteran and productive quarterback leading them forward.

Cade McNamara can get the last laugh on Michigan with Iowa transfer

Iowa went 7-5 and missed out on representing the Big Ten West in the conference title game this year because of a shock loss to Nebraska. The Hawkeyes were sixth in scoring defense nationally this year. They were 123rd in scoring offense.

With stronger quarterback play, they should be looked at as the power in the West.

While the Hawkeyes aren’t on Michigan’s regular season schedule for 2023, they will have a strong chance of making it to the Big Ten title game with McNamara at the helm. The Wolverines could meet them there if they maintain their strong level of performance against the rest of the conference while continuing to have Ohio State’s number.

A Michigan-Iowa Big Ten Championship Game now looks extra intriguing for next year.

McNamara started for the Wolverines in 2021, throwing for 2,576 yards and 15 touchdowns. However, McCarthy was a highly-touted recruit who Michigan fans were eager to see because of his high ceiling. The two went into the season locked in a QB battle, which was eventually won by the younger of the two.
