Chiefs key defensive starter cleared just in time for Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs will get a big boost in their secondary with L’Jarius Sneed returning.

With an extra week to great ready to get ready, it seems as though Kansas City Chiefs star defensive back L’Jarius Sneed will be back in time to play in Super Bowl 57.

Sneed cleared concussion protocol and will be able to play vs. the Philadelphia Eagles for a Lombardi Trophy on Sunday evening. No doubt about it, this is huge for Kansas City’s quest at two Super Bowl championships in four years. However, keep in mind that the Chiefs are considerably more banged up than the NFC champion Eagles. Philadelphia is a slight favorite over Kansas City.

FanSided‘s Matt Verderame reported from Glendale, Arizona Sneed is out of concussion protocol.

Kansas City Chiefs will have cornerback L’Jarius Sneed available for Super Bowl

This is huge for the Chiefs’ chances of winning on Sunday evening. Philadelphia may have more of a ground-centric offensive attack, but they have an incredible receiving corps as well. Whether it be A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith or tight end Dallas Goedert, MVP candidate Jalen Hurts has plenty of great pass-catchers to spread the ball around to. Sneed should be able to slow down Brown a bit.

The reason this will be key is the Kansas City defense will want to make the Philadelphia offense as close to one-dimensional as possible. If Philadelphia can continue to run the ball down the opposition’s throat like it pretty much has all season, Kansas City could be in for a rough night. Fortunately, taking away the vertical passing game could limit the Eagles’ overall effectiveness.

Ultimately, we are probably looking at a game decided by 10 points or less. While some of the Super Bowl 52 championship team remains with the Eagles, remnants of the Super Bowl 54 championship team are far more prevalent on the Kansas City sidelines. Andy Reid has already won a Super Bowl, but this is untrodden territory for Nick Sirianni leading the Eagles franchise.

Had the Chiefs been severely depleted in the back end, this could have been a massive issue.
