Former Pro Bowl wideout flirts with Packers and possible retirement

The Green Bay Packers do need wide receiver help, but Deebo Samuel might not be the answer. Instead, a surprising candidate in interested — DeSean Jackson.

D-Jax, who is considering retirement, would be interested in making a comeback under the right circumstances. Playing for Aaron Rodgers would certainly help convince him to leave the friendly confines of his everyday home.

Jackson has struggled with injury issues towards the end of his career, but you can bet he still has a little bit of that 4.3-4.4 speed in him if used sparingly. Green Bay, meanwhile, could use a deep threat after losing Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Could this be a match made in heaven?

“If the right situation called,” Jackson said.

D-Jax also clarified that he wants to play with “a great quarterback, not a good quarterback.”

Rodgers would certainly qualify as that. Jackson went as far as to confirm the Packers would be a team he’d be interested in playing for.

Packers: Is Deebo Samuel still on the table? And what of Deshaun Jackson?

Samuel reportedly requested a trade from the 49ers over his contract dispute. Deebo wants to be paid like one of the most explosive playmakers in all of football — which he is — rather than being pegged into one category (running back or wide receiver). In the same offseason Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill and Stefon Diggs have received record deals, Samuel thinks it’s his turn.

The Packers would not only have to fork over significant draft capital for Samuel, but sign him to an expensive extension as well. Meanwhile, money is the exact reason why they just traded Rodgers’ favorite target in Adams.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. That doesn’t add up.

The Packers approach thus far has been to replace Adams by committee. Bringing in a veteran presence like Jackson could aid that.
