Martin Nguyen says Shamil Gasanov will get slept if he underestimates him
At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, former two-division world champion Martin Nguyen will look to get back in the win column.
After a tough run in recent years, Nguyen has gone from being one of the most dangerous fighters in the world to a contender who fighters are looking to build their names off of by defeating him.
The undefeated Shamil Gasanov will look to do exactly that by beating Nguyen. The Russian hopes to leap over him in the rankings and find himself in a title eliminator after being victorious on his ONE debut.
In order for ‘The Situ-Asian’ to keep his place in the division, Martin Nguyen must remind everyone what he is all about by recapturing some of the form that saw him become a double champion.
The major key to his success in previous years was his finishing ability, which made him such a difficult opponent to beat inside the circle. In an interview with SCMP MMA, Nguyen spoke about being prepared to remind his opponent just how dangerous he can be:
“I feel like he’s going to come out and underestimate me. Try to stalk me down and I do what I do best. I’ll counter his strikes and I’ll knock him out.”

Martin Nguyen is grateful for his career in ONE Championship and is taking things “one step at a time”
After enduring some highs and lows in recent years, Martin Nguyen has been reflecting on his career up to this point.
Nguyen was once one of the most successful fighters in ONE Championship, reigning as a two-division world champion on the back of an incredible run of performances.
Having won just one of his last four fights, ‘The Situ-Asian’ has gone from producing one of the greatest runs ever seen under the ONE banner to struggling to put together back-to-back wins.
At ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video, Nguyen is in desperate need of a victory by any means necessary when he faces Shamil Gasanov on February 24. His quest to get back on top can be seen by fans in North America live in U.S. primetime via Prime Video.
In his recent interview with SCMP MMA, Martin Nguyen reflected on his career so far, what motivates him to remain competing, and his desire to stay with ONE Championship until he decides to call time:
“That’s the idea, man but I don’t know what the future holds. I’m just going to take it as it comes and I’m grateful to be able to set foot in the ring, in the circle, and to represent my brand and inspire a lot of people in the ONE Championship platform. One step at a time and we’ll go from there.”
