Message board fan thinks Georgia could still flip Arch Manning from Texas

Texas fans might be worried about Arch Manning possibly flipping to Georgia before January.

So you’re saying there’s a chance…?

Not to get all Lloyd Christmas on you, but it would be a very Mary one in Athens if Arch Manning did flip from Texas to Georgia. Although nobody in Dawg Nation is counting on that happening, there was an interesting post on a TexAgs message board about where things stand with college football’s chosen son. Here is what a friend of a “well-connected” coach had to say about all this…

Let’s just say Uncle Peyton has no time for Lane Kiffin and anything he is doing at Ole Miss now.

“Just passing this along for conversation. Not sure it is all correct but the coach friend of mine knows everybody in football. Ole Miss boosters called Archie [Manning] and offered $15 million for Arch. Archie told them Peyton [Manning] cannot stand Lane Kiffin because of his days at Tennessee. And that Peyton said he would give Arch the $15 million not to go to Ole Miss.”

What does this have to do with Georgia, the school that finished second for Arch’s commitment?

Well … here you go! Let the Big Dawg eat!

“Georgia offered Arch $11 million and Eli [Manning] and Archie like Georgia because of Matt Luke. Texas got Arch for $12 million. But the family says the recruitment is really not over yet. And if you remember when Arch committed to Texas, Kirby Smart said something like, ‘this is not over yet.’ This coach has given me solid info before. Could just be all talk. But thought it was interesting. And if Arch does flip, it might be an interesting afterthought.”

Not until Manning signs his national letter of intent on Early Signing Day is this Facebook official.

Message board posts suggest Georgia could still flip Arch Manning from Texas

Not going to lie, this was always in the back of the mind of any and every Georgia fan. While Dawg Nation might still be a tad bitter about missing out on the Arch Manning sweepstakes, the schadenfreude emanating from the Peach State for Texas to screw this up is at an all-time high. It was never that Manning did not pick Georgia, it was that he decided to commit to wobbly Texas…

Kiffin may be a good fit for Ole Miss, but it would be a cold day in hell before Uncle Peyton lets his nephew enjoy the finer things Oxford has to offer. While his alma mater Tennessee is in far worse shape than all involved, his deep pocket books speak volumes. Though we are not naive enough to think there wasn’t some behind-the-scenes bidding war going on here, it’s a $1 million difference.

Georgia may have been outbid, but Uncle Eli and Grandpa Red’s connection to former Bulldogs offensive line coach Matt Luke is very real. He may have retired from the profession, but this man helped get Ole Miss out of a very dark place post-Hugh Freeze. The noted offensive line coach may have only been a stop-gap hire as the bridge to Kiffin, but Luke remains very highly thought of.

For the time being, there are two big things to watch between now and January when it comes to Manning. The first is if Georgia decides to be a late entrant into the rest of the 2023 cycle’s crop of quarterbacks. It does not seem likely, but the Dawgs do usually add at least a four-star in every cycle. Brock Vandagriff will be a sophomore, while Gunner Stockton enters his freshman season.

The other, and perhaps most fascinating, wrinkle in all this is how Texas plays. The Longhorns should be a bowl-caliber team in Steve Sarkisian’s second season at the helm. They don’t have to win the Big 12 to retain Manning, but anything less than an 8-4 season and a top-four finish in-conference could have people seriously doubting if Sarkisian is the man to keep leading the team.

No, Texas cannot possibly be dumb enough to fire Sarkisian after two seasons with Manning anxiously waiting to put pen to paper to forever Hook ‘Em Horns. However, if Texas is an unmitigated disaster like they were a year ago, how can the Mannings seriously think it is a good idea to feed Arch to the wolves and send him to a college program defined by monkey business?

Sarkisian would need to be flipping burgers before Manning flips to Georgia to mess with Texas.
