Molly McCann awakens UFC London crowd with violent finish of Hannah Goldy.
Molly McCann defeated Hannah Goldy via TKO (strikes), Round 1 – 3:52 at UFC London on Saturday, July 23, 2022, live from the 02 Arena in London, England.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen this in combat sports in the UK, getting behind a female athlete… I will not let you down. I am not Everton Football Club… Have you ever seen lightning strike twice, well now you have,” said McCann.
McCann landed a big overhand right that hurt Goldy. In shades of her last fight, McCann followed it up with a spinning back elbow that dropped Goldy. McCann jumped on top of Goldy and landed strikes until referee Herb Dean stopped the fight. Following the stoppage, McCann started celebrating. McCann climbed the cage running around the Octagon before jumping into the hands of Barstool founder Dave Portnoy. Backstage, cameras showed her friend Paddy Pimblett going crazy celebrating. The crowd started chanting Molly as they waited for Bruce Buffer to announce McCann as the winner.
McCann entered the fight on a two-fight winning streak. In her last fight, McCann defeated Luana Carolina with a spinning back elbow knockout that earned her a performance of the night bonus. With another great performance, McCann could get a ranked opponent in her next fight.
Goldy returned to flyweight in her last fight, submitting Emily Whitmire with an armbar to earn her first UFC win. With three losses in her last four fights, Goldy’s tenure in the UFC might be coming to an end.
Prior to the McCann finish, only 1 of the last 9 fights had been finishes.
