PFL Championship: Olivier Aubin-Mercier drops Stevie Ray out cold to capture lightweight title (Video)

Olivier Aubin-Mercier becomes this season’s lightweight champion after knocking out Stevie Ray at the 2022 PFL Championship PPV.

After signing with the PFL, following his parting with the UFC, in 2020, Olivier Aubin-Mercier can now call himself a champion and millionaire following his win over Stevie Ray in the finals of the 2022 PFL lightweight tournament.

Aubin-Mercier is now 6-0 in the PFL cage and becomes the first Canadian PFL champion.

The first round featured a lot of feeling out, with Aubin-Mercier seemingly having better results in striking, tripping up Ray twice on low kicks. Ray managed to briefly lock up Aubin-Mercier against the cage twice, though only after Aubin-Mercier showed heavy pursuit of attack.

Ray got off to a much better start in the second round, catching one of Aubin-Mercier’s kicks and, after a few attempts, successfully taking Aubin-Mercier to the ground. Aubin-Mercier eventually made his way up with about 90 seconds left, but not after Ray displayed complete control on the ground for the entire time prior.

But it didn’t matter, as Aubin-Mercier knocked Ray out cold with about 20 seconds remaining in the round after landing a vicious right hook.

The PFL Championships take place on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, live from the Hulu Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City, NY. Follow along with FanSided MMA, who is on site for all your news and highlights.
