Rockets: John Wall’s Instagram activity suggests he wants out of Houston

Rockets guard John Wall may be looking to leave Houston if you believe his recent response to a poll on Instagram over the weekend.

Did you know Instagram makes your votes in polls public? John Wall didn’t.

The Houston Rockets guard created a stir on social media when a fan shared a screenshot from Instagram.

On an Instagram poll question of whether Wall will stay in Houston or leave, Wall himself appeared to vote “leave.”

That’s not the kind of response Rockets fans were hoping to see from their star.

Houston traded Russell Westbrook to Washington for Wall and a 2023 first-round draft pick in December. Since then, they’ve been in full tank mode, succeeding in sitting at the bottom of the league standings with a 17-54 record.

Wall will be 31 years old by the time the next season begins. He’s not exactly at an age to participate in a full rebuild. In that sense, it’s no surprise the five-time All-Star might not be enamored with the idea of sticking around.

The Rockets and John Wall don’t seem like a long-term match

This season, Wall has averaged 20.6 points with 6.9 assists per game. He’s come back from a season-ending heel injury that kept him out for most of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. However, the team shut him down because of a new hamstring problem.

If Wall were to leave before 2023, it would have to be via a trade or a buyout.

Tim MacMahon of ESPN reported his understanding of the situation on the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast on Friday.

“I think we all understand that it’s a matter of when, not if, the buyout talks heat up again,” MacMahon said.

Considering his age and injury record, the Rockets may not be interested in keeping him around, while Wall would likely prefer playing for a contender. The question is whether or not the two sides can come to an agreement on how that could happen.
