Scott Boras speaks on Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts and more in press conference

Super agent Scott Boras touched on some his biggest clients with questions in MLB free agency at the GM Meetings in Las Vegas.

On Wednesday afternoon, agent Scott Boras met with reporters at The Conrad in Las Vegas to discuss the offseason and share his early takeaways after meeting with teams about his 22 free agents, a list that features superstar shortstops Carlos Correa and Xander Bogaerts.

“The free agent market is very much a carnivore’s market,” he said. “The menu features filet mignon and wagyu and less hamburger and vegan.”

Here’s a recap of what he said.

MLB GM Meetings 2022: Scott Boras on Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts and more

On Carlos Correa’s free agency

“You’re the Dior of defense. You’re the Hermes of hitting. The Louis V of leadership. The Prada of the postseason. It’s a one-stop shop for a championship designer.”

Boras was uncertain whether the Dodgers would tender Cody Bellinger a contract.

“I think it’s about health and strength. We know he’s a five-tool player, an MVP type. Unfortunately, he got hurt in that World Series [in 2020]. We had COVID in between that, we had interrupted elements. So to get him a really, really solid offseason to get his strength back .. it’s really about getting his strength back so he can compete at his skill level.”

The Red Sox have been in touch regarding Xander Bogaerts.

“This is the first time teams have had the opportunity to sign the X-man. They are finding it a Marvelous and Marvel opportunity. Bogie has a very famous uncle…and he certainly left in his memoirs, that ‘Kid there’s going to be a lot of teams looking at you.’” He added: Red Sox owners and Chaim Bloom “have been communicative.”

Boras expects the Padres to discuss a Juan Soto extension.

“I don’t think it’s a question of ‘if’ they’ll do that. I think the question is how they do that. I’m sure before they traded for him, they had a lot of that in mind.”

Would Soto be open to an extension?

“The great thing is he had time to acclimate himself there. It’s not exactly a difficult market to adjust to. I think he’s enjoyed his time there and has certainly enjoyed the competitiveness of the team, being in the playoffs.”

Many teams are in on Brandon Nimmo.

“There are a lot of teams in the free agent market that are in the waters for a center fielder. Whoever Pixar guy, will be the lucky one to finding Nimmo.”

On Jurickson Profar’s market:

“Profar, so good.”
