Punahele Soriano defeated Dalcha Lungiambula via knockout (strikes), Round 2 – 0:28 at UFC Long Island on Saturday, July 16, 2022, live from the UBS Arena in Elmont, NY.
“I didn’t know what I was expecting, I was just trying to land punches. He is a scary dude. I was back in the gym working as hard as I could. Man, I’m going to cry,” said Soriano in his post-fight interview with Daniel Cormier.
The two fighters spent the majority of the first round trading punches. Lungiambula dropped Soriano with a powerful leg kick. Soriano was able to return to his feet and the two continued to trade heavy punches. Lungiambula changed levels and landed a takedown. Soriano was able to work his way back up to his feet.
The end came early into the second round. Soriano fainted with his right and landed a powerful left hand that dropped Lungiambula. Soriano jumped on top and landed another shot. At that point referee, Dan Miragliotta had seen enough and stopped the fight. Soriano started his wild celebration.
Soriano started his professional career with eight straight wins, including winning his first two fights in the UFC by knockout. The undefeated start to his career ended, as Soriano lost his previous two fights by decision. Soriano was very emotional as he celebrated his victory on Saturday.
Lungiambula entered Saturday’s fight in need of a victory. The Congolese fighter entered the Octagon on a two-fight losing streak, with losses in three of his previous four fights. Following his third straight loss, Lungiambula is in jeopardy of being released by the UFC.
