UFC makes Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards in SLC official

The No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC is scheduled to make his return to the Octagon in August.

Kamaru Usman is on a dominant streak, currently holding the UFC welterweight championship with an iron grip that has yet to loosen even a bit. After taking some time off to get a surgery done on his hand, the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC is finally scheduled for his sixth title defense.

UFC 278 is scheduled for Aug. 20, 2022, in Salt Lake City and will be headlined by Usman taking on Leon Edwards. This will be the second matchup between the two, with their first clash coming in December 2015.

Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman have the ingredients for a dramatic and exciting fight

Since losing to Usman in December 2015, Leon Edwards is undefeated in the Octagon with seven victories (and one no contest). Since that meeting, Usman has beaten 13 opponents in a dominant fashion, getting better with every fight. The most significant change over those nearly seven years, of course, is the UFC gold that is now wrapped around Usman’s waist. These two fighters have improved significantly since their first bout and could bring the best out of each other in their rematch.

UFC 278: Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards takes place on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2022, live from Salt Lake City, UT. Follow along with FanSided MMA for all your news and highlights.
