TP-Link Tapo security cameras ditch the wires.
After being available in Europe and other regions for quite a while, TP-Link finally released its affordable and capable Tapo cameras in the U.S. earlier this year. Now, the company is back with its new Tapo C420S2 wireless outdoor security camera.
For those unaware, previous offerings like the TP-Link Tapo C320WS offered tons of specs and features at a wallet-friendly price point. Those include an HD 2k resolution camera with colored night vision, two-way audio, built-in motion sirens, integrated spotlights, and IP66 water resistance. And while it’s a great home security solution, it requires a hardwired power connection.
However, the new TP-Link Tapo C420S2 delivers all those same features and more while being completely wireless. Yes, TP-Link finally ditched the wires, yet promises 180-days of battery life from a single charge. Plus, that battery is rechargeable or removable, giving users more options than ever.
This time, the camera has an even bigger sensor for capturing crystal clear photos, 2K video, and night video. It also supports smart AI detection, notifications for people or pets, and more flexible storage options.
It’s worth noting that TP-Link says this new camera can get “up to 180 days of battery life,” so your mileage may vary. Depending on the amount of use, recording, or usage of features like two-way audio and floodlights will vary battery life.
Either way, being able to swap out the battery for a fully charged one quickly makes this an excellent option vs. competitors from Link, Arlo, and others.
Buyers will also appreciate using TP-Link’s highly capable outdoor camera with or without a subscription. You can access live recordings locally on the TP-Link hub thanks to the internal microSD or pay for Tapo Care and get cloud video storage.
Unfortunately, while the previous model was $60, it looks like this new model is a bit more expensive. You can grab a 2-pack today from Amazon for $199.
