Angel City FC to face Mexican women’s team in first Copa Angelina

Angel City Football Club will face the Mexican women’s national team Sept. 5 in the first Copa Angelina.

The game, part of a multi-year partnership, will take place at Banc of California Stadium and will celebrate “the rich history of Mexican culture in Los Angeles through community impact, celebrations and competition on the pitch.”

“We are excited to partner with the FMF (Mexican Federation) and SUM (Soccer United Marketing) to host this first-of-its-kind annual event featuring a national team and a professional team and bringing together our communities, cultures, cities, and countries,” Angel City president Julie Uhrman. “We look forward to growing Copa Angelina year after year. We hope to set an example of what is possible when two organizations come together, celebrating our commonalities and differences, as we gather our communities to enjoy the beautiful game.”

In May, Angel City announced a two-year partnership with Tigres UANL in Mexico. Angel City will play Tigres Femenil in two friendlies, with the first taking place Aug. 10 at Banc of California Stadium and the second set for next season.

Both teams will host community impact events during each visit and will also engage with local fans, community groups, and local soccer clubs.
