Bill Russell, Boston Celtics great and 11-time NBA champion, dead at 88

Bill Russell, the all-time great Boston Celtics center who won 11 championships during 13 dominant NBA seasons, died Sunday at age 88.

The Hall of Famer died peacefully with his wife, Jeannine, by his side, reads an announcement on Russell’s official Twitter page.

The 6-foot-10 Russell, a five-time NBA MVP, averaged 15.1 points and 22.5 rebounds per game during his career from 1956 to 1969.

He spent his entire career with the Celtics.
