Body found in Mira Mesa home; police detain man ‘covered in blood’

A man was found dead in a Mira Mesa home Friday morning and another man reported to be covered in blood was detained outside the residence, San Diego police said.

Officers initially responded to a call around 7:00 a.m. about a man “covered in blood acting erratically” outside a residence on Burlington Way near Bendigo Road, police Lt. Matt Dobbs said in a news release. Officers who arrived at the scene detained a 39-year-old man.

When the officers checked the house, they discovered the body of a man in his 20s who appeared to have traumatic injuries to his upper body, Dobbs said. Police have not yet released any information about the man’s identity.

The man detained by officers is believed to have known the victim, but it is unclear what role, if any, he had in the death, Dobbs said.

The San Diego police homicide unit is investigating the incident. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
