Brush fire erupts in Santa Clarita; businesses evacuated

A brush fire sparked in the hills of Santa Clarita Thursday afternoon, prompting evacuations and road closures.

The Railroad Fire was estimated to be 20 acres in size as of 4 p.m. and was burning in the area of Commuter Way and Soledad Canyon Road, authorities said.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered for businesses on Soledad Canyon Road between Bouquet Canyon Road and Commuter Way.

Thankfully, “forward progress” was stopped at 20 acres, the L.A. County Fire Department tweeted.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
