The blaze ignited around 12:45 p.m. off state Route 78 near Casner Road, with flames spreading at a moderate rate through grass, Cal Fire said.

Residents near and on Rancho Ballena Road have been told to evacuate, a sheriff’s official said. An evacuation center was set up at Ramona High School on Hanson Lane.

Route 78 was closed at Old Julian Highway while fire crews battle the flames.
