Chula Vista police identify man fatally shot early Sunday

Police on Thursday publicly identified the 32-year-old man who was gunned down early Sunday morning in Chula Vista, but said the motive for the killing remains unclear.

Noah Copeland was shot and killed just before 2:30 a.m. on Moss Street between Third and Fourth avenues, according to Chula Vista police spokesman Lt. Dan Peak.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire found Copeland suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Peak said in a news release. Medics took him to a hospital, where he died.

Though the motive for the shooting was still unknown, Peak said a four-door sedan was seen leaving the area just after the shooting.

Police asked any potential witnesses, or anyone with information about the slaying, to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
