Crews battle fire at former bank building in Boyle Heights

The fire was reported around 1:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Soto Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters are in defensive mode against the blaze, dubbed the “Soto Fire.”

Heavy fire was reported in the attic and quickly extended through the vacant and boarded building.

Los Angeles police officers also responded to the scene for traffic control. Motorists were being asked to avoid the area.

The building one-story, 5,937 square-foot building was built in 1950, officials said.
