Fire crews are battling a fire in rural, rugged terrain about two miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border in far East County, Cal Fire reported Friday.
By 2 p.m, the fire had grown to about 30 acres, with the potential to spread to 250 acres, Cal Fire spokesperson Capt. Thomas Shoots said.
No structures are threatened, he said. It is located in a difficult area for crews to access, near Otay Mountain Truck Trail, in the eastern portion of the Otay Mountain Wilderness Area, he said.
“Helicopters are hitting it hard. Crews are hiking in,” he said.
