Driver, 27, killed when pickup truck hits tree, overturns in Pine Valley

A 27-year-old driver died when his pickup truck overturned on Old Highway 80 in Pine Valley on Thursday, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened about 2:20 p.m. as the driver headed west on the highway, west of Buckman Springs Road, Officer Jared Grieshaber said in a news release.
The officer said the driver was in a 2019 white Ford F350 when, for reasons still under investigation, he made “an unsafe turning movement” to the right as the road curved to the left.
The pickup truck went off the road, struck a tree and overturned. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.
Grieshaber did not release the driver’s name, but said he was from Anaheim.
The region was hit by strong Santa Ana winds much of Thursday. Grieshaber said the crash remains under investigation, “but at this time it does not appear the wind played a role in the crash.”
