Driver arrested in Vista hit and run crash that injured two of his children and a motorcyclist

A 31-year-old driver was arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Vista injured two of his children and a motorcyclist Thursday night, sheriff’s officials said.

Just before 9 p.m., a sedan made a left out of a grocery store parking lot to head west on Bobier Drive near East Vista Way. The car pulled in front of an oncoming motorcyclist, headed east on Bobier, Deputy Jason Malson said.

The motorcyclist hit the sedan broadside, and was thrown from the bike, he said. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The sedan took off, and parked on a residential street about a mile away. After more than 90 minutes, the driver called a friend, who advised him to call 911. He did so.

Deputies and paramedics arrived and found the driver, his wife and their three children, ages 2, 6, and 8 in the car, Malson said. Two of three children had been hurt in the crash, he said. They were taken by ambulance to Rady Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of hit and run causing injury, willful child neglect and driving without a driver’s license.

Malson said neither alcohol nor drugs is believed to have played a role in the crash.
