Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI after hitting 2 cars, crashing into building

A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence Sunday after allegedly backing into a car in a taco shop parking lot, crashing into another vehicle and then smashing into a building a short distance away, Chula Vista police said.

The incident began around 9:15 p.m. in the parking lot of a taco shop on Broadway near Roosevelt Street when the woman backed into a vehicle, police said.

Witnesses said two bystanders then began attacking the driver whose car was hit, hitting the man with beer bottles, said Chula Vista police Lt. Frank Giame.

The woman began to drive off and crashed into another vehicle in the parking lot. That driver complained of pain but was not transported to the hospital, Giame said.

She then took off again, this time heading south on Broadway. She made a U-turn at H Street and began heading north at a high rate of speed. She lost control and crashed into a building several blocks away on Broadway near E Street, he said.

The building was vacant and no one was injured.

Giame said.the woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI and suspicion of hit and run causing injury.

Detectives are still trying to identify who was involved in the assault case, he said. “We are going to have to work that case, we don’t have many leads right now,” he said.
