A driver struck and killed a pedestrian early Friday morning on Interstate 5 between San Diego’s Mission Bay and Bay Park neighborhoods, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It happened a few minutes before 2 a.m. as the victim was walking in northbound lanes of the freeway between Sea World Drive and Clairemont Drive, CHP spokesperson Officer Jesse Matias said in a news release.
A 27-year-old San Diego man driving a Hyundai sedan struck the pedestrian, who died at the scene, Matias said. The Hyundai’s driver remained at the crash site.
The victim was described as a male, but his name and age were not released.
Authorities shut down several freeway lanes until about 4:30 a.m. as they investigated the deadly crash.
