Four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Lakeside that left a teenager in critical condition last month, sheriff’s officials said.
The suspects are Carley Lucille Morales, 25, Stephen Jerewane Driver, 39, and Edward Carl Davis, 25, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Additionally, a 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the shooting. His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Nov. 6 on Ashwood Street near Mapleview Street, a few blocks south of El Capitan High School, the department said.
Investigators said a 16-year-old boy and his two teen companions were confronted by a group of people. The confrontation turned into an argument and then a physical confrontation when two members of the group assaulted one of the teens.
One of the assailants retrieved a pistol and chased after the 16-year-old.
The boy was shot in his lower back, sheriff’s Sgt. Colin Hebeler said in a news release.
The boy was taken to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries. He is still receiving medical treatment but is expected to survive, Hebeler said.
Footage from OnScene TV taken at the time of the incident showed heavily armed sheriff’s deputies searching the area with help from a sheriff’s helicopter but all four suspects had fled the area.
The San Diego Fugitive Task Force took Davis and Morales into custody at a hotel near Downtown San Diego on Nov. 19. Davis is being held in county jail with bail set at $1 million.
A few days later, U.S. Marshals took Driver into custody without incident in Bedford, Ohio, on Nov. 23, sheriff’s officials said.
The 17-year-old suspect was taken into custody after he was seen walking in the same area as the shooting occurred on Dec. 8, sheriff’s officials said.
There are no outstanding suspects, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
