A two-year-old girl died at a hospital after she was hit by a minivan while riding a scooter in front of an Irvine apartment complex Thursday night, Oct. 27, authorities said.
Irvine police and Orange County firefighters were called about 8:05 p.m. to the Cross Creek Apartments, 22 Creek Road, Irvine Police Sgt. Karie Davies said.
The girl was riding the scooter on the sidewalk, southbound on Creek Road, when she was hit by the minivan approaching an exit from the complex, Davies said. It wasn’t known if she was wearing a helmet.
The girl died shortly after arriving at the hospital, she said.
The driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation, Davies said. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash.
The girl’s identity was not released by police pending notification of relatives.
The apartment complex sits east of Mike Ward Community Park and just north of Alton Parkway.
The crash occurred more than two weeks after the parents of a 23-month-old girl filed a lawsuit against Amazon, a delivery driver and the Irvine Company following a fatal collision between the girl and a delivery van at another apartment complex in the 300 block of Estancia, Aug. 17.
The suit alleges the driver made an unsafe turn in a “poorly-designed, dangerously-maintained” parking lot and alley way.
Irvine police officials said on Oct. 11 they were still investigating that collision.
