Lakers guard Alex Caruso was arrested on Tuesday in Texas for marijuana possession, according to jail records.
Caruso, 27, was picked up in College Station, Texas, where he attended college, for possession of marijuana (less than 2 ounces) and possession of drug paraphernalia. KBTX in Texas reported that TSA officials at Eastwood Airport identified a marijuana grinder with residue among Caruso’s possessions.
While marijuana has been decriminalized in California, where Caruso resides throughout much of the year, Texas still maintains laws against it.
Brazos County jail records show that Caruso was released on a $552 fine. The Lakers declined to comment.
Caruso has played for the Lakers for the last four seasons, averaging 6.4 points and 2.8 assists during the 2020-21 season. He is a free agent this offseason. He was born and raised in College Station and attended Texas A&M from 2012-16.
