A 56-year-old man who ran across state Route 78 in Ramona was struck by a vehicle and killed Tuesday evening, a California Highway Patrol official said Thursday.
Investigators believe the man was under the influence of alcohol, CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber said. The man was identified as a Ramona resident, but his name was not released.
Grieshaber said a 2019 Toyota Camry struck the man in the fast lane on east SR-78, also known as Main Street, near Seventh Street about 6 p.m.
The pedestrian was rendered unconscious and taken to a hospital, where he died, Grieshaber said.
The driver, a 50-year-old woman, was not hurt.
