Two men, at least one of them armed with a knife, attacked a third man late Tuesday afternoon in Bankers Hill in an assault that left the victim with a severed pinkie on one hand, San Diego police said.
It happened just before 5 p.m. in front of the 7-Eleven on Fifth Avenue and Spruce Street in the neighborhood west of Balboa Park and south of Hillcrest, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said.
The 31-year-old victim was standing outside the convenience store when two men approached him and some sort of argument broke out, Buttle said. One of the two men pulled out a knife and attacked the victim.
Paramedics took the victim to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Buttle said. Police officers detained two people in the area who they believed might be the suspects, but those men were later released when surveillance footage showed they were not responsible for the attack.
