Man seriously injured after crashing motorcycle he allegedly stole in Otay Mesa

A man was seriously injured after crashing a motorcycle he allegedly stole at an illegal street racing event in Otay Mesa on Friday, San Diego police said.
A 28-year-old man was sitting on his motorcycle at the event on Avenida Cosa Norte near Airway Road about 11:20 p.m. when two men approached, said San Diego police Officer D. O’Brien. The first man pointed an AR-15-style rifle at the rider and then fired one bullet into the air.
The motorcyclist ran away, and the second man hopped on the bike and rode off, O’Brien said. The man with the rifle was seen leaving in a blue sedan.
Soon after, the man accused of stealing the bike crashed into a Chevrolet Suburban. O’Brien said the man was taken into custody and then to a hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.
San Diego’s Traffic Division is investigating the crash while detectives from Southern Division are looking into the armed auto theft.
The 22-year-old gunman, described as being Latino, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and about 140 pounds, was last seen in the blue, four-door sedan wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. He is considered armed and dangerous.
