A 48-year-old man who drove his car into San Diego Bay early Sunday morning was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, police said.
The man was driving a Kia Soul with a 22-year-old woman in the vehicle around 1 a.m. on Harbor Island when he drove off the road and into the water, said Harbor Police Sgt. Troy Nicol.
The two were able to get out of the car through an open window and swim to shore, Nicol said.
The man also was arrested on suspicion of spousal abuse, Nicol said. He was booked into county jail and is being held on $50,000 bail, Nicol said.
Divers attached a towing hook to the car and a towing truck hauled the car up out of the water.
