Man’s body found in Otay Valley Regional Park; homicide investigation underway

A homicide investigation was underway Sunday after the body of a 49-year-old man was found in the Otay Valley Regional Park, San Diego police said.

Residents in the area and family members of the victim found the body about 10:50 a.m. on the eastern end of the open space area, just south of Rancho Drive and west of Interstate 805, police Lt. Lt. Steve said.

The victim had suffered trauma to his upper body “that indicated he was the victim of a violent crime,” prompting a homicide investigation, Shebloski said.

The lieutenant would not elaborate on the trauma. He said the county Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of the man’s death.

Detectives were working to determine the circumstances surrounding the homicide. They were combing the scene for evidence, checking the area for surveillance video and trying to interview anyone with information, Shebloski said.

No information about the assailant was available.

The victim lived with family members nearby, in Chula Vista, and frequented the area of the park where his body was found, Shebloski said.

The man’s name was not released.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
