A 36-year-old National City man died late Saturday after his motorcycle rear ended an SUV on southbound Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened south of Orange Avenue about 11:35 p.m. when the man’s black Kawasaki motorcycle struck a blue Nissan SUV, causing the motorcyclist to be thrown off the bike, CHP Officer Jesse Matias said.
The man died before he could be taken to a hospital. His name was withheld pending notification of his family.
Why the rider crash into the SUV was under investigation, Matias said.
The Nissan driver, a 62-year-old woman, was not hurt and cooperated with investigators, Matias said.
It was not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, Matias said, adding that investigators were awaiting a toxicology report from the county Medical Examiner’s Office.
Several lanes were closed during the investigation.
