A motorcyclist was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon following a collision with a vehicle in Fallbrook, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 3:40 p.m. on East Mission Road at Via Zancas, according to the California Highway Patrol and North County Fire Protection District. It was not immediately known what caused the collision, which occurred in the area of a sharp curve on the two-lane roadway.
Firefighters were told the wreck resulted in a fatality, but when they arrived they began performing CPR on the severely injured motorcycle rider, North County Fire spokesperson Capt. John Choi said.
Paramedics were still performing CPR when they took the injured rider to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, Choi said.
Authorities shut down both directions of East Mission Road for about an hour, but all lanes were reopened by 4:40 p.m., according to a CHP incident log.
