One injured in Oceanside apartment fire

One person was taken to a local hospital after a fire in a ground-floor unit at an apartment complex Thursday morning in Oceanside.

Firefighters arrived at the complex on Vine Street near Oceanside Boulevard four minutes after the 4:53 a.m. alarm to find black smoke coming from the apartment, said Oceanside fire Battalion Chief Lucifer Keener.

Neighbors had helped the victim get out of the building, and the person was treated by paramedics and taken to a local hospital. The fire was still burning but kept in check by a sprinkler, Keener said in a news release.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in eight minutes and prevented it from spreading to adjoining apartments. The occupants of those apartments were able to return.

The Vista and Carlsbad fire departments provided mutual aid, Keener said. No firefighters or bystanders were injured.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
