One killed, several injured after elderly man crashes car into South Carolina Wendy’s

At least one person was killed and several others were injured after an elderly driver plowed into a South Carolina Wendy’s on Tuesday, officials said.
The driver smashed through the front door of the fast food restaurant at the Pilot Travel Center in Bishopville around 12:30 on Tuesday, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office told WIS-TV.
The car hit the restaurant’s counter with enough force to push it all the way into the grill, investigators said.
Janie Kirkland, 70, of Hartsville, was sitting down and eating when she was fatally struck by the vehicle, according to the Lee County Coroner.
She had been with her husband, who had just gotten up to refill his drink when the crash occurred.

Several others inside were also injured and were transported to area hospitals, investigators said, although the exact number of victims and their conditions have not been released.
At least one victim was pinned beneath the car, police said.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and Lee County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the crash.
