One person was killed and two people were injured Monday afternoon when an SUV crashed on Interstate 5 near the boundary between Oceanside and Camp Pendleton.
The northbound gray Jeep Cherokee veered off the freeway about 4:15 p.m. just north of Harbor Drive, hit a tree and rolled over before landing on its wheels. Paramedics took the driver and one passenger by ambulance to a hospital in Orange County, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike Morrin said.
The name of the person killed was not released. The wreck forced the closure of two northbound lanes for about two hours.
Camp Pendleton firefighters and Oceanside police also responded to the incident along with the Highway Patrol.
