Overnight standoff between vehicular manslaughter suspect and Covina police ends with man detained

A nearly 16-hour standoff between police and a vehicular manslaughter suspect who barricaded himself inside a Covina home finally came to an end Wednesday morning.

The suspect locked himself inside the residence in the 100 block of North Forestdale Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Covina Police Department Sgt. Statler said.

Statler confirmed the suspect was wanted on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

Video from the scene Wednesday morning showed a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad truck had been called to the scene.

A shirtless man was eventually taken from the scene by authorities a little after 7 a.m. Police have not identified the suspect involved in the incident.

Residents near the home were evacuated during the standoff as a precaution.

The suspect was believed to be the only person inside the residence.
