A pedestrian died after he was struck by three vehicles on Interstate 8 in El Cajon on Monday night, officials said.
The man was hit around 10:30 p.m. as he was walking in the traffic lanes of westbound I-8 west of state Route 67 around 10:30 p.m. He was hit by three vehicles and died before he could be taken to a hospital, said California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow.
Two of the three drivers who struck the pedestrian remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation, Garrow said.
A 36-year-old woman was driving a Kia Optima that struck the man. A 28-year-old driver in a Dodge Charger also hit the pedestrian. A driver in an unidentified vehicle hit the man but fled the scene, Garrow said.
The identity of the deceased man will be released through the county Medical Examiner’s Office after family notification has been made.

Garrow said the crash is still under investigation and alcohol and/or drugs may have been a factor.
