Police investigating Otay Mesa West crash that left boy, 17, injured

A 17-year-old boy suffered major injuries Monday morning when he was hit by a car as he crossed a street at an intersection in Otay Mesa West, police said.

The incident occurred just after 8 a.m.on Picador Boulevard, where the teenager ran across from west to east, San Diego police Officer John Buttle said in a news release..

A 53-year-old woman was driving a Hyundai Elantra south on Picador when the boy ran in front of her vehicle, Buttle said.

The teenager, who was not identified, sustained a fracture to his left leg and a six-inch cut on his left hip, injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Buttle said.

Police said they are investigating the crash and asked anyone with information to call the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
