Roads were blocked in Santa Monica as a standoff between a pursuit suspect and dozens of police officers took over the streets on Thursday night.
The suspect refused to surrender as dozens of police cars surrounded their vehicle while blocking roads on Ocean Avenue, just north of Colorado Avenue and the Santa Monica Pier entrance.
A crowd of onlookers gathered near the standoff located in a tourist and pedestrian-heavy area.
The standoff lasted over an hour after police initially attempted to pull the driver over. The pursuit eventually ended in the middle of the street on Ocean Avenue.
It’s unclear what the driver is wanted for and authorities believe a dog was inside the vehicle as well. Onlookers riding scooters and bicycles were seen approaching the suspect’s car.
Santa Monica Police eventually appeared to terminate the standoff after some time for unknown reasons.
The driver was seen slowly traveling along nearby streets as another unidentified white vehicle stopped next to them, appearing to have an extensive conservation with the suspect.
Details remain limited and this story will be updated.
