Police: Woman wanted for illegal gambling arrested after pursuit in San Diego

A woman who had a warrant out for her arrest for illegal gambling led police on a pursuit, crashed and ran away before being detained Sunday night in the Chollas View neighborhood of San Diego, police said.

Police said an officer spotted the woman speeding in a white Toyota Camry on 47th Street near Wightman Street in City Heights about 8 p.m. and recognized her as a wanted felon. When the officer tried to pull her over, she sped off.

Police gave chase briefly before calling off the pursuit because the woman was driving recklessly, according to scanner traffic.

She crashed her car into at least two parked vehicles on Market Street at 47th Street, then ran away. Officers flooded the area and searched for her until they found her in a backyard on 48th Street near Hilltop Drive about 8:25 p.m.

Earlier Sunday, a driver in a stolen car led police on a pursuit that began about 5:20 p.m. in the area of Ocean View Boulevard and 36th Street in Mountain View. The driver stopped on Van Dyke Avenue near El Cajon Boulevard in Kensington and ran away, but officers found him and detained him. They also detained at least one passenger.

Police said the driver clipped two vehicles during the pursuit but no one was hurt.
