A clerk at a convenience store in Oceanside suffered life-threatening injuries when he was shot during an armed robbery early Sunday, police said.
At 4:25 a.m., officers were called to investigate a robbery at the AM PM store on Oceanside Boulevard, just east of Interstate 5, according to police spokesperson Jennifer Atenza.
Two men had entered the store and demanded cash from the store clerk, Atenza said. One of the suspects pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at the clerk.
The clerk complied and handed over a few hundred dollars, then he tried to chase the robbers out of the store using a stick, Atenza said. It was during that altercation that one of the men shot him in the torso, she said.
The clerk, who is in his 40s, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police say the suspects are Latino, between 20 and 25 years old and about 5 feet 10 inches with medium build. The armed suspect was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black shoes, Atenza said. The other suspect was wearing a gray New Balance hoodie, black sweatpants and black shoes, she said.
