Teen arrested in fatal stabbing of 19-year-old man in Imperial Beach

A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody Saturday in the fatal stabbing of a National City man Thursday night near the Imperial Beach Pier.

Sheriff’s homicide Lt. Chris Steffen said agents with the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested the boy at the San Ysidro Port of Entry around noon on Saturday. Because he is a minor, the sheriff’s office is not releasing any identifying information about him, Steffen said in a statement.

He was booked into a juvenile detention facility on suspicion of murder, Steffen said.

Officials said 19-year-old Victor Josue Villa Perez was stabbed and gravely wounded about 11:25 p.m. Thursday near the entrance to the pier off Seacoast Drive near Evergreen Avenue.

Deputies found the victim with a wound in his upper torso. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

“At this point it appears the suspect and victim did not know each other,” Steffen said. “The circumstances and motivation are still under investigation.”
