An 18-year-old man was gravely injured in a shooting after a College Area party early Saturday, San Diego police said.
Police learned of the incident about 1:45 a.m. after the victim’s friends brought him to a hospital for a gunshot wound to the upper body. Police said while the teen is still alive, he isn’t expected to survive his injuries.
Around the same time police were learning of the victim, officers in the College East area were responding to El Cajon Boulevard and Art Street, and were able to determine that’s where the teen was shot, police said.
Investigators believe the victim and his friends were at a party on Art Street shortly before the shooting. After leaving in a vehicle, and while turning west onto El Cajon Boulevard, the victim was struck by a bullet. Detectives are still working to determine whether there was some kind of altercation at the party before the shooting occurred, police said.
A second bullet struck an apartment complex window on the south side of El Cajon Boulevard, but no one in the complex was injured, police said.
At the time of the shooting, many people who were also leaving the party were in the area, but most of these people had left by the time detectives arrived. Anyone with information regarding this incident was asked to call investigators at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at (888) 580-8477.
