Woman, 68, seriously injured in head-on crash in San Pasqual

A 68-year-old woman suffered serious head and back injuries Friday evening when she crossed into oncoming traffic on San Pasqual Valley Road and struck another vehicle head on, police said.

It happened just after 5 p.m. about four miles east of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

The woman was headed east, toward Ramona, when she apparently lost control of her 2015 Ford Fiesta and crossed into the westbound lane, Heims said. Her car slammed head on into a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta.

Both cars spun after colliding, and the driver of a 2010 Nissan Cube that had been following behind the Ford slammed into its driver’s door, Heims said.

Medics took the seriously injured woman to the hospital, while the 28-year-old man driving the Jetta had only a complaint of pain, and the Nissan’s driver was not injured.
