2 children hospitalized after golf cart overturns, trapping one underneath the cart

Two children were hospitalized, one with serious injuries, after a golf cart carrying six passengers — all under the age of 18 — crashed and overturned on a North County street on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash was reported around 2:25 p.m. on Cerveza Baja Drive near Mountain Meadow Road in the Deer Springs area, west of Valley Center.

The driver of the golf cart lost control and flipped the cart on its side, said Cal Fire spokesman Frank LoCoco. One person was trapped underneath the cart and the other five were ejected.

LoCoco said the person trapped under the cart suffered major injuries and was transported by helicopter to a hospital. A second person had minor injuries and was taken to a hospital by ambulance. The rest of the passengers were released to their parents.

LoCoco said he didn’t know the ages or genders of those involved in the crash.
