A man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, hit and run and evading a police officer Saturday night after allegedly crashing into a motorcycle rider while being chased by sheriff’s deputies.
Deputies initially went to a home on Amy Way in Lakeside after someone called 911 to report a person was throwing rocks and possibly was armed with a gun, said sheriff’s Lt. Chris Galve.
As deputies arrived, a driver took off in a vehicle and deputies tried to stop the car but the driver kept going, Galve said.
Galve said he ran a few red lights before he collided with a motorcycle rider on Winter Gardens Boulevard at Woodside Avenue.
The rider was transported to the hospital with a possible broken ankle.
A short time after the collision, the driver pulled over and was taken into custody without incident, Galve said.
