Alabama football continues 5-star spree, beating out Georgia, Oregon for elite RB

Alabama football is no stranger to signing 5-star recruits but they added their third in the past month on Friday with running back Richard Young committing.

If there are two things that you can definitively say about Alabama football in the Nick Saban era, it’s that the Crimson Tide have produced elite running back talent and have consistently brought in five-star recruits.

On Friday, the program continued the tradition in both facets.

After making the top three for five-star running back Richard Young, the Lehigh Acres product from Florida made his decision on Friday and he will be heading to Tuscaloosa in 2023.

Alabama football lands 5-star RB Richard Young

Young was heavily recruiting by multiple blueblood programs throughout the college football landscape but Alabama lastly beat out Georgia and Oregon for the commitment.

The Crimson Tide have been on an absolute tear of late on the recruiting and commitment trail as Young is their third five-star commitment since the final week of June. Making it even sweeter, Friday’s win on the trail is the second five-star recruit that Alabama has beaten out rival Georgia for this week as the No. 1 safety in the class, Caleb Downs, committed to join Saban’s program on Wednesday.

As for Young, he looks the part of the next great Alabama football running back. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound back is a one-cut runner who rushed for 1,755 yards and 19 touchdowns on fewer than 200 carries last season for Lehigh. He has good speed and the frame to deliver a punch on would-be tacklers.

With a legacy that includes the likes of Derrick Henry, Najee Harris, Josh Jacobs and many more, Young looks like the next iteration of great Crimson Tide running backs.
